Hello there! I proposed this project to Club Business Japan, a company where I'm currently working for a half year ago. I studied Sports and Exercise Performance in England and after I came back to Japan, I realised that it is hard to search for gym info in English. Either most of gyms' websites were in Japanese/ only exclusive hotel gyms on tripadviser. I saw this as a problem.
I visited Sweden when I was in England and I wanted to go to gyms. However, I needed to
look for each gym's website and some of them were in Swedish. Also info on google maps were not accurate sometimes. Therefore, I thought there should be one website listing all gym info. I also help gyms. Like I help them making the instructions at their gyms in English (like how to use this gym), reply to gyms' customers in English and make rules at gyms into English. I started collecting gyms to list about four months ago. I first sent email to each gym, then I made a phone call to each gym and got approval. Not all the gyms said "YES". It's because some of them are only focused on Japanese customers. I work with gyms which friendly to expats and tourists.
As you know, you can't take photos/videos at gyms here. But I realised that Gold's gym Ginza accepts photo&video taking at special area. So I told other gym company that they could make an area like this and allow people to take photos&videos. I used to just accept what things are. However, I want to change things if I could for my users.
Gym In Japan will soon introduce reservation system. The purpose for doing this is to save time for both visitors and gyms. Language is a huge obstacle here and you might be bothered by getting explanation about drop-in tickets and rules at a gym.
All you need to is to reserve&pay via our website and show the pass when you get to gym!! I am also here to get rid of the language obstacle for gyms in Japan because some staff can speak English and some can't. I want to deliver equal service to everyone.
As for expats, Gym In Japan will act as your agent (fee will incur) when you want to join a gym. There are so much paper work and some are still in Japanese, so GIJ is here to help you through those processes (this will start soon and GIJ will inform you).
